A tarot deck holds 78 cards: 22 major arcana numbered 0 to 21, and 56 minor arcana split into four suits of fourteen — wands, cups, swords and pentacles, each running ace to ten plus page, knight, queen and king. Every card here carries both its upright and reversed reading, the imagery it comes from, and what it is taken to mean for love, work and health.

| The Hanged Man | A pause that cannot be rushed. | Stalling disguised as reflection, or a sacrifice made that nobody asked for. |
| Death | Something is finishing, and it is not optional. | Clinging to what has already ended. |
| Temperance | Two things combined in the right proportion. | Excess or imbalance. |
| The Devil | A bind you are partly choosing. | Recognising the trap and beginning to leave it. |
| The Tower | Sudden collapse of something built on a false footing. | A disaster averted or delayed, or one you are refusing to acknowledge is already happening. |
| The Star | Calm after upheaval. | Discouragement, or hope placed in something that cannot carry it. |
| The Moon | Nothing is quite what it appears. | Confusion lifting, or deception coming to light. |
| The Sun | Everything visible and going well. | Delayed success or dimmed enthusiasm. |
| Judgement | A summing-up. | Avoiding the reckoning, or judging yourself so harshly that nothing can move. |
| The World | A cycle finished properly. | An ending that will not quite complete. |
| Ace of Wands | A spark of new energy: an idea, a project or a desire that wants to be acted on now. | The spark is there but will not catch — delays, lack of direction, or enthusiasm that fizzles because nothing concrete follows it. |
