A pause that cannot be rushed. Seeing the situation from an angle that only becomes available when you stop struggling.
The Hanged Man is a pause that changes your perspective: waiting, letting go and seeing a situation from a different angle. He hangs calmly upside down. The card describes surrender, sacrifice and the insight that comes when you stop forcing progress.
Stalling disguised as reflection, or a sacrifice made that nobody asked for.
Reversed, the pause becomes stalling — indecision, resisting a necessary sacrifice, or martyrdom that achieves nothing. It can also mean finally moving after a long delay.

The Hanged Man is card XII, fifth of the seven in the row that runs from Strength (VIII) to Temperance (XIV).

None: Book T (1888) gives the Hanged Man an element rather than a sign — Water. The Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces, held in the major arcana by the Chariot, Death and the Moon, and the suit of Cups carries the same element.

The Hanged Man describes pause, surrender and a new perspective. It often appears when pushing harder will not help and letting go will. Reversed, it points to stalling or sacrifices that achieve nothing.
Upright, a relationship in limbo, or seeing a partner differently; patience is needed. Reversed, waiting for someone who will not change, or sacrificing too much.
They feel uncertain and are holding back, not ready to commit either way.
A pause you cannot force past. Useful for perspective, maddening for momentum. Delays and waiting; use the pause to rethink rather than push a stalled plan.
Enforced rest. The body stopping what the mind would not.
