House number numerology adds up the digits of an address until one number is left, then reads it as the atmosphere of the place rather than a verdict on the people in it. Most addresses land on 1 to 9; only a few keep 11, 22 or 33.

Bright cells keep a master number. 22 and 33 never appear below 100: their digits would have to add up to 22 or 33, and the first addresses that do are 499 and 6999.

How the address is counted

Only the house or apartment number is used — not the street name, ZIP code or city. Digits are added and reduced to a single digit, unless the total is 11, 22 or 33. Letters in an address, like the B in 12B, are converted using the Pythagorean table, so B adds 2.

For an apartment inside a larger building, practitioners use the apartment number rather than the building number, on the reasoning that the apartment is the actual home. If you want to read both, the building number is treated as the wider environment and the apartment number as the home itself.

What this is and is not

This is folk practice, close to feng shui in spirit — a way of thinking about atmosphere. It says nothing about property value, safety or whether you should sign a lease. If a home is right in every practical respect, its number is not a reason to walk away.

Where it has some use is in noticing what a home encourages. A house that draws constant visitors and a house that supports long quiet work are genuinely different, and having language for that difference is not the worst thing.
