Human Design
Human Design is a personality system published in 1987 that sorts people into five types, Manifestor, Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector and Reflector, each with its own strategy for decisions. It blends the I Ching, astrology, the kabbalah and the chakras, and no study has tested it.
How the type follows from the chart
Two questions settle it. Is the Sacral center defined, and is a motor center (Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart or Root) joined to the Throat? A chart with no defined center at all is a Reflector.
By the system's own figures, a defined Sacral puts 70% of people in the Generator column, and the other three types share the remaining 30%. No independent survey has measured these shares.

Where it came from
Human Design was described in 1987 by Alan Krakower, who took the name Ra Uru Hu and said he received the system over eight days on Ibiza. It combines four existing systems: the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching, astrological positions, the kabbalistic Tree of Life and the Hindu chakra model.
That is worth stating plainly, because Human Design is often presented with the authority of something ancient. The components are old; the synthesis is from 1987 and has no evidential basis beyond the account of one man.
What it does offer is a specific and unusually actionable vocabulary — "wait to respond" and "inform before acting" are concrete instructions, which is more than most personality systems manage.

Why we do not tell you your type
Type is not read from a date directly. It takes three steps:
- the gates of all thirteen bodies at two moments, birth and the point 88 solar degrees earlier;
- which of the 36 channels those gates complete;
- which centers the channels join, and so which of the two rules above apply.
We do not hold the channel and center tables, so we stop at the arithmetic. A guess from the Sun gate alone would often be wrong while looking exactly as confident as a right answer. The profile, gates and cross above are complete; if you know your type from a full chart, the type pages still apply.
