Source: Human Design teaching; not measured independently.
Generators have a defined sacral center, described as a renewable energy source that responds rather than initiates. The strategy is to wait for something to respond to, and to notice the gut response before the mind supplies reasons.
The "not-self theme" is the system's diagnostic: persistent frustration is read as a sign of operating against the strategy rather than as a character flaw.

The Generator in the bodygraph, and how common it is
A Generator always has the Sacral center defined, and no motor center is joined to the Throat — with that link the chart would be a Manifesting Generator.
No type is counted more often than the Generator, about 37% of people; add the Manifesting Generators and the Sacral-defined types reach 70%. Both figures come from Human Design teaching, not from a survey.

What makes someone a Generator
A Generator has a defined sacral center and no motor connected to the throat. The sacral is the system's engine for sustained work and life force, and it works by response: it lights up in reaction to something already in front of it. Their aura is described as open and enveloping, drawing people and opportunities in — which is why the strategy tells them to wait for those opportunities rather than chase them.
The strategy
Wait to respond, in practice
Waiting to respond does not mean doing nothing. It means noticing the gut reaction to a question, an offer or an idea before the mind argues for or against it. Practitioners often use yes-or-no questions asked by someone else, listening for an involuntary sound — an "uh-huh" or an "uhn-uhn" — as the sacral answer.
At work
The Generator at work
Described as built for mastery through repetition: work that genuinely engages them can be sustained for years, and each stage of skill unlocks the next. Work that does not engage the sacral is said to produce frustration however well it pays.
Close up
The Generator in relationships
The system advises Generators to respond to invitations and advances rather than to pursue, and to trust the gut reaction to a person over lists of reasons. Frustration in a relationship is read as a signal to check what they originally responded to.
Decisions
Which authorities a Generator can have
Generators decide through sacral authority, or through emotional authority when the solar plexus is defined — in which case the gut response still matters but needs time and a settled mood to be trusted.
Commonly overstated
What being a Generator does not mean
Being the most common pure type is sometimes taken to mean "ordinary". In the system the Generators' sustained energy is what keeps the world running.
Human Design was published by Ra Uru Hu in 1987 and combines the I Ching, astrology, the Kabbalah and the chakra system. The type descriptions above are the system's own claims; none of them has been tested scientifically. A correct type also depends on an exact birth time and a full ephemeris, which is why this site explains the types rather than calculating a chart.
