What numerology is, plainly

Numerology assigns numbers to letters and dates, reduces them to single digits, and reads meaning into the result. The Pythagorean version used across the West is attributed to Pythagoras, though the attribution is loose — the system as practised today was assembled in the early twentieth century.

There is no mechanism by which a birth date could determine character, and no evidence that it does. What numerology offers is a fixed set of prompts: twelve descriptions, applied through a procedure you did not choose, which sometimes surfaces a thought you had been avoiding. That is a reasonable thing to want. It is not a reasonable basis for a medical, legal or financial decision.
