The six core numbers, worked through

An example chart for Emily Rose Carter, born 15 July 1990, calculated by the same code as the calculator above.

Life Path Reduce the day, month and year separately, then add them: day 15 → 6, month 7, year 1990 → 19 → 10 → 1; 6 + 7 + 1 = 14 → 5. Life Path 5 — the anchor of the chart.
Expression Every letter of the full birth name converted to its number and added: 78 → 15 → 6. Expression 6 — talents and the way you work.
Soul Urge The vowels only (Y counts when it sounds as a vowel): 38 → 11. Soul Urge 11, a master number, so it is not reduced further — inner motivation.
Personality The consonants only: 40 → 4. Personality 4 — how others first read you.
Birthday The day of the month, reduced: 15 → 6. Birthday 6 — a specific gift.
Personal Year Birth day and month added to the current year, 2026: 14 → 5. Personal Year 5 — the theme of this calendar year; most practitioners switch to the next number on 1 January, some on the birthday.

The Pythagorean letter table

Letters run 1 to 9 and start again — A is 1, I is 9, J is 1 again. Master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are kept whole when a total reaches them; 13, 14, 16 and 19 on the way down are read as karmic debt numbers.

Which name to use

The traditional choice for the Expression number is the full name on your birth certificate — middle names included, however much you dislike them. A married or chosen name is read as a second influence layered over the first, not a replacement.

This matters more than it sounds: the name-derived numbers change if the name changes, while the Life Path never does. That asymmetry is why practitioners treat the Life Path as the anchor of a chart.
