Tourmaline sits at 7 or above, so dust will not scratch it. The other 4 dip below quartz, so dust slowly dulls their polish.
Protective stones are traditionally placed by the front door, carried when traveling or worn as jewelry. People often hold one while setting a boundary or before a situation they expect to be draining.
Personal safety and emotional boundaries come from practical steps: saying no clearly, limiting time with people who drain you, and asking for support. A protective object can make it easier to hold a boundary, but it is a reminder rather than a barrier.
Obsidian breaks into extremely sharp edges — handle raw pieces carefully and keep them from children. Hematite is heavy and brittle and can shatter if dropped on a hard floor.
