Crystals for money

The stones traditionally chosen for enterprise and steady resource-building — with what each one actually is.

Citrine

Traditionally associated with enterprise, optimism and material momentum.

Composition Silicon dioxide (SiO₂) — quartz coloured by iron
Hardness · Chakra 7 · Solar Plexus

Natural citrine is uncommon. Most stones sold as citrine are heat-treated amethyst — the giveaway is a concentrated colour near the tip.

Aventurine

Traditionally the traditional stone of opportunity and taking a calculated risk.

Composition Quartz with platy mineral inclusions, usually fuchsite mica
Hardness · Chakra 6.5–7 · Heart

The glitter is aventurescence — light bouncing off flat mica inclusions suspended inside the quartz.

Pyrite

Traditionally linked to enterprise, initiative and material confidence.

Composition Iron sulphide (FeS₂)
Hardness · Chakra 6–6.5 · Solar Plexus

Known as fool's gold, but it grows in near-perfect natural cubes — a shape so precise it is often mistaken for carved. It degrades in humidity, so keep it dry.

Jade

Traditionally linked to steadiness, good fortune and long-term thinking.

Composition Two distinct minerals — nephrite (calcium magnesium silicate) and jadeite (sodium aluminium silicate)
Hardness · Chakra 6–7 · Heart

Jade is not the hardest stone but among the toughest — its interlocking fibres resist breaking, which is why it was carved into axes before ornaments.

Tiger's Eye

Traditionally linked to nerve, practical courage and seeing a situation clearly.

Composition Quartz replacing fibrous crocidolite
Hardness · Chakra 6.5–7 · Solar Plexus, Root

The moving band is chatoyancy — light reflecting off parallel fibres. The same effect in a cabochon-cut chrysoberyl is called cat's eye.

What a stone can and cannot do

No crystal treats a medical or psychological condition, and nothing on this page should replace advice from someone qualified to give it. What a stone can do is act as a physical reminder — an object in your pocket attached to an intention you set deliberately. That is not nothing, and it is also not magic.
