The Hierophant is tradition, institutions and learning from a teacher: religion, education, established rules and shared values. He describes doing things the accepted way, finding a mentor, or joining a group with a clear belief system.
Dogma, or a break from it. Either tradition followed unthinkingly, or the moment you stop asking permission.
Reversed, the card questions convention — breaking with tradition, rebelling against rules that no longer fit, or a bad teacher. It can also mean blind conformity you need to challenge.
