The major arcana run 0 to 21 as a progression — the Fool's journey from unguarded beginning to completed cycle. Card 1 falls in the first stretch, which deals with the outer world and the tools for meeting it.

A figure stands at a table holding one arm up and one down, channelling between them. On the table lie a cup, a wand, a sword and a pentacle — all four suits. An infinity symbol floats above his head.
