Ace of Swords
A breakthrough in clarity: a new idea, an honest truth or a decision that cuts through confusion.

Suit of Swords
The suit of Swords is about what you are thinking, and what it is costing you.

Zodiac signsGemini, Libra, Aquarius
The Swords handle thought, conflict and truth. When several appear in a reading, that is the area doing the talking — regardless of what the question was about.
Within the suit, the number does the rest of the work: Aces open, fives disrupt, tens complete. Court cards describe people, or the way you are behaving in that area.

The suit of Swords in the zodiac
In Book T (1888) the Two to Ten of Swords cover the three Air signs ten degrees at a time: Libra (Two to Four), Aquarius (Five to Seven) and Gemini (Eight to Ten).
Each numbered swords cell shows its planet and sign; the ace and the four court cards are labeled with their part of air instead.

All fourteen
Two of Swords
A stalemate or a decision being avoided. You are holding two options in balance and refusing to look at either too closely.
Three of Swords
Heartbreak, painful truth and sorrow. Something hurts, and the card does not soften it.
Four of Swords
Rest and recovery. After strain or conflict, the mind needs quiet before the next challenge.
Five of Swords
A hollow victory. Someone wins the argument but loses goodwill, and the cost may outweigh the gain.
Six of Swords
Moving on from difficulty toward calmer waters. The transition is quiet and sad, but it leads somewhere better.
Seven of Swords
Strategy, secrecy or deception. Someone is acting alone and not entirely openly — possibly you.
Eight of Swords
Feeling trapped by circumstances that are partly self-imposed. The restrictions are real, but not as complete as they seem.
Nine of Swords
Anxiety, sleepless worry and nightmares. The mind magnifies fears, often beyond what is actually happening.
Ten of Swords
A painful ending or rock bottom. It is over — which also means the worst has passed.
Page of Swords
Curiosity, vigilance and a hunger for information. The Page asks questions and watches carefully.
Knight of Swords
Fast, determined action driven by ideas. The Knight rushes toward the goal with intellect and conviction.
Queen of Swords
Clear judgment and honest independence. The Queen sees through pretense and speaks plainly, often after experience has taught her to.
King of Swords
Authority through intellect and principle. The King makes fair decisions based on reason and ethics.
