The air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius — the signs that handle life by describing it, comparing it and talking it through. Their three signs take 91.3 days of the Sun’s year, 25% of it, and drew the third-largest share of US births in 2000–2014, 25.01%.

Air is the element of distance. It can hold a situation at arm’s length, including a situation it is standing in the middle of, and that detachment is both the gift and the complaint. Air signs are read as cool not because they feel less but because the first thing they do with a feeling is turn it into a sentence.

Where the idea of air signs comes from
Air sat between fire and water in the Greek scheme — hot like fire, moist like water, belonging fully to neither.
