That is why fire signs are read as confident even when they are not: the trait being described is not certainty, it is the willingness to go first without waiting for the room to agree.

Where the idea of fire signs comes from
The four elements reached astrology from Greek natural philosophy, where fire was the light, rising element, the one that moves away from the earth. Everything the tradition says about fire signs follows from that single physical image: upward, fast, consuming its fuel.
