The Devil is the card of the arrangement you chose and now call a necessity. Saturn rules it, so the material is real: money, appetite, status, the job that pays too well to leave. Nobody in the image is tied down — the chains are loose and the figures are not looking. It is also among the rarer arcana in the method, 19th of 22, and it never reaches the center.

Understands leverage, appetite and what things actually cost — the least naive of the 22. Extremely effective in the physical world: builds businesses, negotiates hard, produces results where others produce intentions. Sees the hidden term in any deal, because it recognizes the shape from the inside.
The bargain gets renamed. What began as a deliberate trade — this compromise for that outcome — becomes 'how it is', and the exit stops being visible. Applies to substances, but far more often to income, a role or a relationship whose price is quietly increasing. Second mode: seeing the trap everywhere and refusing all commitments as cages.

The work is auditing the arrangements: which are still worth it, which are running on habit. Where it lands: business, finance, negotiation, addiction and behavioral work, anything requiring an unflinching read of what motivates people.
The line hands down a bargain that was never reviewed — a marriage kept for property, work endured for status. Inherited along with it is real competence at surviving on those terms.
Cities with appetite and no apology — food, nightlife, markets. The card recovers through indulgence taken deliberately rather than avoided, which is the whole lesson in miniature.
Powerfully physical and prone to entanglement rather than partnership: strong bonds that outlive their reason. The useful question is not whether there is passion but whether either person could leave.
The strongest earner of the 22, and the one most likely to be owned by what it earns. Wealth accumulates through material realism; the discipline is keeping the income optional.
