The Sun is the plainest card in the deck and the hardest to earn: nothing hidden, nothing to interpret. Ruled by the Sun itself, it describes visible, uncomplicated competence — the state after the doubt is resolved. In a matrix it lands most often on talents, taken from the year of birth, so it tends to describe something that was never difficult rather than something achieved.
Warm without effort and legible to everyone — people understand what this person is about within minutes. Genuine, high-output vitality: works long, recovers fast, and lifts the mood of a room by being in it. Children and animals like it, which is a better indicator than most CV lines.
Clarity becomes obliviousness. What is obvious to this arcana is assumed obvious to everyone, so nuance, other people's slowness and unspoken difficulty go unnoticed. Second mode: needing the room to be warm, so anything sober gets read as hostility and awkward truths never get said.
Needs to be seen doing something it is good at — not applause, visibility. Also needs actual sunlight and movement more literally than any other arcana; the state degrades measurably indoors.
The work is learning to be around difficulty without brightening it away — presence rather than reassurance. Where it lands: teaching children, performance, sport, medicine, hospitality, anything where the product is other people's energy.
The line hands down vitality and a survivor's optimism, often after a hard generation. The task is to keep it without the denial that came bundled with it.
Heat, water, daylight, other people. This is the one arcana for which the obvious holiday is the correct one, and solitary retreats reliably backfire.
Generous and straightforward, wanting partnership in daylight — no ambiguity about status. The risk is picking someone whose difficulty needs solving and mistaking that for closeness.
Earns through visibility and reputation rather than strategy. Money comes easily and leaves the same way; the discipline is a system that saves without requiring attention.
Heart, circulation, vitamin D, eyes. Strong baseline constitution, so the danger is late detection: this arcana ignores small signals because it is used to feeling well.
Barred from the centre and from the month of birth, so the Sun never arrives as the theme of a life or as a family assignment. Tradition treats it as the destination; the arithmetic makes it a starting condition — equipment rather than a goal.
