Computed from the actual motion

The nearest Saturn retrogrades either side of 1985

Previous

1984 Ended July 13, 1984 after 140 days, moving back 6.68° through the zodiac.

Next

1986 Begins March 19, 1986 and runs 141 days.

Both dates are computed from the planet’s apparent motion, not taken from a table. A retrograde begins the moment its daily movement against the stars turns negative, and that moment is findable to the hour.
