Computed from the actual motion

The nearest Pluto retrogrades either side of 1970

Previous

1969 Ended June 2, 1969 after 157 days, moving back 2.7° through the zodiac.

Next

1971 Begins January 1, 1971 and runs 157 days.

Both dates are computed from the planet’s apparent motion, not taken from a table. A retrograde begins the moment its daily movement against the stars turns negative, and that moment is findable to the hour.
