Where the custom comes from
The business calendar is electional astrology applied to money: begin things that should grow while the Moon grows, end things while it wanes. The earth signs are preferred because they are associated with material resources and practical results.
How people follow it
Followers time a launch or a signing for the waxing half of the month and keep new-Moon days for setting targets and full-Moon days for reviewing them. Debt repayment and closing old accounts go into the waning half.
