Computed from the actual motion

The nearest Pluto retrogrades either side of 2001

Previous

2000 Ended August 20, 2000 after 158 days, moving back 2.75° through the zodiac.

Next

2002 Begins March 20, 2002 and runs 159 days.

Both dates are computed from the planet’s apparent motion, not taken from a table. A retrograde begins the moment its daily movement against the stars turns negative, and that moment is findable to the hour.
