The reasoning

Why Scorpio gets Topaz and Obsidian

Scorpio is ruled by Mars in the old scheme and by Pluto in the modern one, and its stones answer to both. Topaz, the November stone, was once believed to lose its color in the presence of poison — fitting for a sign that trusts slowly and checks everything. Obsidian is volcanic glass, black and razor-edged, flaked into blades for thousands of years; it stands for protection and for the hard look inward that Scorpio manages better than any other sign.
