What a dream book said in 1862

The Golden Wheel Dream-Book, under “Widow”
“If a girl dreams that she is a widow, it foretells that she will have many lovers: such a dream to a married woman, denotes that some man beside her husband is in love with her.”
Felix Fontaine, The Golden Wheel Dream-Book and Fortune-Teller (New York: Dick & Fitzgerald, 1862) — read the original text. Like other American dream books of its time, Fontaine read dreams as omens and attached lottery numbers to them; under “Widow” it printed 38, 60. Today’s dream dictionaries still echo readings like this one.
