Dreaming about death

Dreaming about death is traditionally read as endings and transition — very rarely literal. It is one of the few dreams anyone has counted: in the standard survey of typical dreams, 54.1% of 1,181 students had dreamt it, the 8th most common of 55 themes.

Dreams of death are common: in the 2003 survey more than half the students had dreamt of someone still living as dead. No study has found that such dreams predict actual events.

The psychological reading

Usually about a chapter closing rather than a person dying. Dreaming of your own death is more often read as transformation than as fear of dying.

Frequently read as the opposite — an omen of long life, or of a wedding.
