“A sign of thieves; to dream of fighting with them, shows that you will have to deal with some cunning enemy; to keep a tame fox, signifies that you will love a lewd woman, or have a bad servant, who will rob you. A number of foxes, false friends.”

Like other American dream books of its time, Fontaine read dreams as omens and attached lottery numbers to them; under “Fox” it printed 11, 17. Today’s dream dictionaries still echo readings like this one.
