The reasoning

Why Taurus gets Emerald and Sapphire

Taurus is ruled by Venus, and in the old correspondences Venus's color is green — hence emerald, the color of spring pasture. The sign is about patience, comfort and things built to last, and emerald's deep, slow color suits it better than a flashier gem. Sapphire supplies the other half of Taurus, steadiness and loyalty, in a stone hard enough to be worn every day for a lifetime. Both are classic heirloom gems, which suits the sign that values what endures.
