Objects
Dreaming about bread is traditionally read as sustenance in its most basic form — bread dreams sit with provision rather than with appetite. No survey has measured how often this one occurs, so we give the reading without a frequency — only 19 of the dream themes here have a published figure at all.

The psychological reading
One of the oldest recorded dream symbols, and consistently read as security across unconnected traditions, because for most of history it literally was.
When it turns up
Bread is sustenance at its most basic and most shared: the food that is broken and handed round. These dreams arrive around provision and who is providing it — households, wages, hospitality.

The version matters
The version carries most of the information.
Stale or mouldy bread is the informative variant and tracks provision that has stopped being reliable.
A searched version. Basic needs met, and dreamers report it as plain rather than pleasurable.
Making provision rather than receiving it. It clusters around periods of setting up a household or a business.
The oldest image of hospitality there is, and it reads as trust rather than food.
Provision that has gone off. It follows support that is technically there and no use.
Shortage in the plainest terms. Reported during genuine financial pressure more than at other times.
Routine provision. It usually reads as ordinary life continuing.
What the traditions claim
Bread carries weight in most traditions: the Christian eucharist, the unleavened bread of Passover, the daily bread of the Lord's Prayer. Those associations belong to the dreamer's background and are worth knowing, but they do not make the dream a message.

Commonly claimed, and wrong
Bread dreams are not money omens, and there is no meaning attached to the type of loaf. Provision and sharing are what the imagery consistently carries.
How to record a dream, why the feeling matters more than the content, and when recurring nightmares are worth a doctor rather than a dictionary — set out once on the main page.
Asked most often
Usually basic provision and who supplies it.
Trust and hospitality rather than food. It is one of the oldest images we have for both.
Only through the slang. Dream reports stay closer to sustenance than to income.
