What a dream book said in 1862

The Golden Wheel Dream-Book, under “Mountain”
“To dream of approaching beautiful smooth-looking mountains, dressed in verdure, denotes thrift and happiness, and that you will rise in the world: if the mountains look steep, rugged and rocky, it foreshadows difficulties and danger, which you may overcome by energy: to dream of successfully climbing a mountain, is a sure sign that some honor awaits you, or that you will make a good deal of money: difficulties in climbing show troubles and vexations in getting your honors or your money.”
Felix Fontaine, The Golden Wheel Dream-Book and Fortune-Teller (New York: Dick & Fitzgerald, 1862) — read the original text. Like other American dream books of its time, Fontaine read dreams as omens and attached lottery numbers to them; under “Mountain” it printed 64. Today’s dream dictionaries still echo readings like this one.
