Pig dreams carry whatever the culture thinks about appetite, which makes them unusually variable: prosperity in much of East Asia, uncleanness in Jewish and Islamic law, greed in English idiom. They arrive around consumption and whether it is acceptable.

Appetite without apology. Dreamers report either amusement or distaste, and which one is the informative part.

Worth noting because pigs are in fact clean animals given the chance. The dream tends to challenge an assumption.

Farming imagery, and it reads as provision rather than greed.

Appetite in the domestic space. It clusters around arguments about consumption — spending, drinking, eating.
Guinea pigs
A frequently reported and entirely different dream: small dependants, or the idiom about being experimented on.

“To dream of seeing pigs is good; if you are in trade you will have great increase in your business from foreign parts; if you are in love, your sweetheart is thereby denoted to be of a good temper, faithful and sincere to you, and that if you marry you will become happy.”

Like other American dream books of its time, Fontaine read dreams as omens and attached lottery numbers to them; under “Pigs” it printed 4, 12, 48. Today’s dream dictionaries still echo readings like this one.
What the traditions claim
The religious readings
Jewish and Islamic law both exclude pork, so for many dreamers the animal arrives with prohibition attached. Chinese tradition runs the other way: the pig is the twelfth zodiac animal and is associated with wealth and abundance. The same dream means different things to different dreamers, which is the honest position.
