Personality
The Wood Rat personality
Anyone born from February 5, 1924 through January 23, 1925 is a Wood Rat: the yang wood stem 甲 over the 子 branch.
The Rat's own Water feeds Wood here, which drains as much as it gives: productive, but inclined to spend itself. Wood brings growth, patience and cooperation — traditionally the most flexible version, one that expands rather than forces.
Stem and branch
1924 is 甲子 (Jiǎzǐ)
Na yin — the sounding element
Gold in the Sea 海中金
Metal lying deep under water: real worth that is not yet visible. Traditional readings give these years ability that needs time, or the right circumstances, to surface — value that is recognized late rather than early.
1924 therefore carries wood from its stem and metal from its na yin. What na yin is →
Li Chun inside the year
An ordinary single-spring year
The two Li Chun dates around it are February 5, 1924 and February 4, 1925, Beijing time. The Rat year spans February 5, 1924 to January 23, 1925, so exactly one of them sits inside it. What double spring and blind years mean →
Who clashes with a 1924 Rat
The 子 branch puts a 1924 Rat opposite the Horse on the wheel, the traditional clash; the nearest Horse year after it was 1930. Its harmony partner is the Ox, whose year followed straight after, in 1925. How the Rat and Horse get on →
Rats born in 1924 turn 102 in 2026 — 103 by the traditional count, which starts at one.
If you were born in 1924
- Born January 1 – February 4, 1924: a Water Pig, the animal of 1923.
- Born February 5, 1924 or later in the year: a Wood Rat.
A year-only calculator mislabels 35 days of 1924, everything from January 1 to February 4. Roughly one US birth in 11 falls on those dates — 9.2% in SSA records for 2000–2014. Check your exact date →
The Rat across the cycle
The animal returns every 12 years but the element every 60, so each of these years is a different Rat.
The lunar calendar of 1924
Why 354 days, and not 365
No leap month this time: from February 5, 1924 to January 23, 1925, 1924 ran twelve months, six of 30 days and six of 29 — 354 days.
The 30-day months were the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 8th and 10th.
Festival dates in the 1924 lunar year
| Festival | Lunar date | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Lantern Festival 元宵节 | first month, day 15 | Tue, Feb 19, 1924 |
| Dragon Boat Festival 端午节 | fifth month, day 5 | Fri, Jun 6, 1924 |
| Qixi, the Double Seventh 七夕 | seventh month, day 7 | Thu, Aug 7, 1924 |
| Ghost Festival 中元节 | seventh month, day 15 | Fri, Aug 15, 1924 |
| Mid-Autumn Festival 中秋节 | eighth month, day 15 | Sat, Sep 13, 1924 |
| Double Ninth Festival 重阳节 | ninth month, day 9 | Tue, Oct 7, 1924 |
| Winter solstice 冬至 | solar term, Sun at 270° | Mon, Dec 22, 1924 |
| Laba Festival 腊八节 | twelfth month, day 8 | Fri, Jan 2, 1925 |
The year's first full moon arrived at 12:06 AM on February 21, two days after the Lantern Festival. This time the calendar and the sky agreed: the Moon was exactly full on the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, at 2:59 PM Beijing time on September 13.
Dates follow Beijing time (UTC+8), the reference clock of the Chinese calendar. Why lunar years differ in length →
Lunar years around 1924
Lengths differ because a leap month is inserted every two or three years. This is what makes the new year date jump rather than drift.
By date, 1924 sits mid-table: of the 110 new years, 52 fall earlier in the calendar and 52 later. Five other years share the date. Twelve years later, 1936 began on January 24 — marked in lavender with the other Rat years.
