In love
In love the Pig is warm, affectionate and sensual, and gives a great deal to a partner. It suits someone who will not take advantage of that generosity and who shares its enjoyment of everyday pleasures.
Animal 12 of 12 · Water · Yin
The Pig is the twelfth animal of the Chinese zodiac — water, yin. Its traditional traits are generosity, appetite and unguarded good faith.
Character
The Pig is the last animal of the cycle, and tradition gives it the qualities of completion: generosity, sincerity, warmth and an easy-going love of life. Pigs are kind, honest and diligent, they enjoy comfort and good company, and they tend to see the best in people.
That trust is also their weakness. Pigs can be naive, overly trusting and indulgent, and they may avoid conflict until it is too late. They are slow to anger, but once pushed too far they are hard to move.
Traits
Sincere Generous Gullible Easygoing IndulgentEach animal also governs two hours of the day — the Pig holds 9–11 PM. Someone born in those hours is said to carry the Pig as an inner sign regardless of their year.
In love the Pig is warm, affectionate and sensual, and gives a great deal to a partner. It suits someone who will not take advantage of that generosity and who shares its enjoyment of everyday pleasures.
Pigs do well in hospitality, food, entertainment, charity, retail and finance — work where people matter. With money they enjoy comfort and are traditionally lucky, though not always careful.
The traditional warning is indulgence: rich food, late nights and too much of a good thing. Moderation is the usual advice.

The 9 Pig years in the table began as early as January 22 1947 and as late as February 18 2007 — a window of 27 days. Anyone born in 2007 before February 18 is still a Dog.
The Pig's own fixed element is Water. The element of the year interacts with it differently each time, which is what separates the five versions — and why the cycle runs sixty years.
| Version | Years | Relation to Water |
|---|---|---|
| Wood Pig | 1935, 1995 | Drains it — productive but costly |
| Fire Pig | 1947, 2007 | Dominated by it — most forceful |
| Earth Pig | 1959, 2019 | Controls it — most restrained |
| Metal Pig | 1971, 2031 | Feeds it — best supported |
| Water Pig | 1983, 2043 | Doubled — strongest expression |
Calculated from the lunar calendar
The 9 Pig years from 1935 to 2031 last anywhere from 354 to 384 days, so the window for being born under the sign is wider in some years than in others. Four of them have a thirteenth, leap month.

By tradition a Pig treads carefully in its own year rather than celebrating it. Why your own animal's year is considered unlucky.
