A single card is a major arcana 28.2% of the time; by ten cards the figure reaches 97.2%, so a Celtic Cross with no majors at all is the rare draw.

Bigger spreads are not more mysterious; they simply sample more of the deck. Read a cluster of majors in a three-card draw as notable, and the same cluster in a Celtic Cross as close to ordinary.

Court cards behave the same way. With sixteen of them in the deck, one turns up in most five-card readings, which is why a reader who treats every court card as a new person will find a crowd.

Why the cards are laid out, not listed

A Celtic Cross is a cross with a staff beside it and the second card lying across the first; as a vertical list, its positions stop meaning anything. So every spread here is drawn where its cards actually go.

None of this makes it prediction. It is arithmetic applied to a deck. What the layout is genuinely good for is making you state the question — the positions force you to separate what has happened from what you are doing about it.
