What research shows
Dream emotion skews negative in every content analysis since the 1960s; fear and sadness outnumber joy substantially.
Actions and situations
Dreaming about laughing is traditionally read as emotion released without cause — laughing dreams are among the rarest pleasant ones. No survey has measured how often this one occurs, so we give the reading without a frequency — only 19 of the dream themes here have a published figure at all.

The psychological reading
Laughing at something that is not funny on waking is the dominant report, and dreamers often cannot reconstruct the joke.
When it turns up
Laughing dreams are among the rarest pleasant ones, and some people wake still laughing. They cluster after periods of tension breaking, and occasionally they arrive with no cause at all, which is itself ordinary.

The version matters
The version carries most of the information.
Laughing while others do not is a distinct variant and reads as being out of step rather than amused.
A searched variant. Emotion carrying across the boundary intact, and reported as a good start to the day.
Dream logic supplying the feeling first and the reason second. It is common and means little on its own.
The opposite dream entirely. It clusters around exposure and humiliation.
Ease with a person. Frequently reported about people who have died, and described as comforting.
Release that has stopped being voluntary. It follows long stretches of holding composure.
At a funeral, in a meeting. It reads as tension finding the wrong exit.
Commonly claimed, and wrong
Laughing in a dream is not an omen of trouble, which some older dream books claim on the reversal principle. Reported effect on waking mood is positive.
How to record a dream, why the feeling matters more than the content, and when recurring nightmares are worth a doctor rather than a dictionary — set out once on the main page.
