Personality
The Earth Monkey personality
Anyone born from January 26, 2028 through February 12, 2029 is an Earth Monkey: the yang earth stem 戊 over the 申 branch.
Earth feeds the Monkey's own Metal in the five-element cycle, so this Monkey is the best supported of the five. Earth brings steadiness, practicality and patience — traditionally the most reliable version, and the slowest to change direction.
Stem and branch
2028 is 戊申 (Wùshēn)
Na yin — the sounding element
Earth of the Great Post Road 大驛土
The broad road of the imperial courier system. Associated with connection, travel and carrying messages — ground that links distant places.
2028 therefore carries earth from its stem and earth from its na yin — the same element twice. What na yin is →
Li Chun inside the year
A double spring year
The two Li Chun dates around it are February 4, 2028 and February 3, 2029, Beijing time. The Monkey year spans January 26, 2028 to February 12, 2029, so both dates sit inside it: a double spring year (双春). What double spring and blind years mean →
Who clashes with a 2028 Monkey
The 申 branch puts a 2028 Monkey opposite the Tiger on the wheel, the traditional clash; the nearest Tiger year after it is 2034. Its harmony partner is the Snake, due 9 years later, in 2037. How the Monkey and Tiger get on →
If you were born in 2028
- Born January 1 – January 25, 2028: a Fire Goat, the animal of 2027.
- Born January 26, 2028 or later in the year: an Earth Monkey.
Only the first 25 days of 2028 belong to the Goat, yet a year-only calculator still calls them Monkeys. Those dates hold 6.6% of US births (SSA, 2000–2014). Check your exact date →
The Monkey across the cycle
The animal returns every 12 years but the element every 60, so each of these years is a different Monkey.
The lunar calendar of 2028
Why 384 days, and not 365
2028 repeats its fifth month: the leap month 闰五月 runs from June 23 to July 21 and stretches the year to 384 days. Seven of the 13 months have 30 days.
The 30-day months are the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th and 11th. Three 30-day months run back to back, from month 1 to month 3.
Festival dates in the 2028 lunar year
| Festival | Lunar date | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Lantern Festival 元宵节 | first month, day 15 | Wed, Feb 9, 2028 |
| Dragon Boat Festival 端午节 | fifth month, day 5 | Sun, May 28, 2028 |
| Qixi, the Double Seventh 七夕 | seventh month, day 7 | Sat, Aug 26, 2028 |
| Ghost Festival 中元节 | seventh month, day 15 | Sun, Sep 3, 2028 |
| Mid-Autumn Festival 中秋节 | eighth month, day 15 | Tue, Oct 3, 2028 |
| Double Ninth Festival 重阳节 | ninth month, day 9 | Thu, Oct 26, 2028 |
| Winter solstice 冬至 | solar term, Sun at 270° | Thu, Dec 21, 2028 |
| Laba Festival 腊八节 | twelfth month, day 8 | Mon, Jan 22, 2029 |
The year's first full moon arrives at 11:03 PM on February 10, the day after the Lantern Festival. The festival night of October 3 falls a day before the true full moon, which comes at 12:25 AM Beijing time on October 4 — lunar day 16.
Dates follow Beijing time (UTC+8), the reference clock of the Chinese calendar. Why lunar years differ in length →
Lunar years around 2028
Lengths differ because a leap month is inserted every two or three years. This is what makes the new year date jump rather than drift.
Only 17 of the 110 new years in the table fall earlier in the calendar than January 26. Two other years share the date. Twelve years earlier, 2016 began on February 8 — marked in lavender with the other Monkey years.
