What tradition claimed
A laden table promised abundance; spoiled food warned of illness.
Included as cultural history. Traditional dream books are frequently ominous and have no predictive value.
Write it down before you move. Dream recall collapses within minutes of waking, and the details that vanish first are usually the ones carrying the emotional weight.
Note how it felt, not just what happened. The same image arriving as comfort and as threat are different dreams, and no dictionary can tell you which one you had.
Then look at the last two or three days rather than at your whole life. Dream content tracks recent waking concerns more reliably than it tracks anything else — that is one of the few findings in dream research that holds up consistently.
Recurring nightmares that disrupt sleep, or dreams that leave you afraid to go to bed, are worth mentioning to a doctor. Frequent nightmares are associated with PTSD, some medications, sleep apnoea and untreated anxiety — all of which are treatable, and none of which a dream dictionary addresses.
How the dream felt matters more than what was in it. The same image can arrive as comfort or as threat, and that difference tells you more than any entry in a dictionary — including this one.
