From the data
What the numbers show
- 56 of the 151 years have 13 full moons instead of 12 (UTC dates).
- A calendar month holds two full moons — a “blue moon” in the modern sense — 62 times in the period.
- 678 phases coincide with a flagged eclipse: 333 solar and 345 lunar.
A lunation lasts 29.53 days, so twelve of them leave about eleven days of the year spare — enough for a thirteenth full moon in roughly three years out of eight.

How it was computed
The principal periodic terms of the Moon’s longitude (Meeus, chapter 47) set against the solar longitude; a phase is the moment the elongation reaches 0°, 90°, 180° or 270°, found by bisection. Eclipse flags mark syzygies close enough to a lunar node.
How it was checked
New and full moons fall within about 20 minutes of published times, and the eclipse flags were checked against the published eclipses of 2024–2030.
